ATF, Draining and Filling


ATF, draining and filling
- Remove sound insulation.
- Place drip tray VAG 1306 underneath transmission.





- Remove ATF control plug (arrow -1-).
- Remove overflow pipe through hole.
- In addition remove drain plug (arrow -2-) in transmission housing.
- Drain ATF.

Note: The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed with no ATF in system.

- Install overflow pipe and tighten.
- Install new seal on drain plug (arrow -2-) and tighten plug to 40 Nm.

WARNING:
^ When working in the vicinity of the radiator ensure sufficient clearance is left to the radiator coolant fan.
^ Radiator coolant fan can switch on without prior warning.






- Pry off plug securing cap (arrow) with a screwdriver.

Note: The cap locking device will be damaged when removing the cap, therefore always replace the cap.

- Pull plug out of filler pipe.
- Fill with ATF using VAG 1924 until ATF runs out of overflow pipe control opening.
- Move selector lever to position "P".
- Start engine.
- Continue to fill with ATF using VAG 1924 until ATF runs out of control hole again.
- Screw in ATF control plug with a new seal.
- Depress brake pedal.
- With vehicle stationary, move selector lever through all positions, pausing in each position for at least 3 seconds.
- Move selector lever to position "P".
- Check ATF level and top off if necessary.





- Install sound insulation (arrows).
