Steering gear, adjusting

Note:
^ Two technicians are required for the adjusting procedure.
^ Adjust with the engine switched off.

- Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Wheels in straight-ahead position.
- First technician: turn steering wheel back and forth (approx. 30° from center axis).
- Knocking noise will be heard if there is excessive play





- Second technician: carefully turn adjustment screw in until knocking noise can no longer be heard inside vehicle.
- Road test.
- Steering must self-center without sticking when maneuvering or cornering.





- Secure adjusting nut with punch mark -arrow-.
