Ignition Lock: Testing and Inspection


Ignition key lock, checking

Vehicles with automatic transmission
- Turn ignition key to position "Ignition on"
Must be possible to move selector lever out of park.
If selector level does not move, the locking cable must be adjusted.

Notes:
^ Ignition key can only be removed with the selector lever in park.
^ With ignition key in the off position, selector lever must not move out of Park.

For vehicles with steering angle sensor -G85-
The steering angle sensor -G85- must be positioned in the center position before installing.
- Insert steering angle sensor -G85-, until the locking lugs engage.

When installing a new steering angle sensor -G85-, the transportation protection must be removed.





- A yellow point must be visible in hole -arrow 1-.
- The marks -arrows- must also align.
Make sure it does not move from center position.
The basic settings of the steering angle sensor -G85- must be checked after performing the following work:
^ Removing or replacing the steering angle sensor -G85-
^ Removing or replacing the steering column;
^ Removing or replacing the steering column switch;
^ Removing or replacing the steering lock housing;
- Perform steering angle sensor -G85- basic setting.

Installing steering column switch





If ignition switch has been removed, dimension -a- between steering wheel and spiral spring must be readjusted.
1. Steering wheel
2. Spring coil housing
3. Clamping bolt switch
Dimension -a- approx. 2.5 mm (0.10 inch)
- Install ignition switch.





- Install steering wheel so that marked line -arrow A- on the steering wheel and center punch mark -arrow B- on steering column align.
Steering columns supplied as replacement parts do not have a center punch mark.
- Install steering wheel bolts and tighten.





- Align ignition switch -2- horizontally.
- Set gap -dimension a- to approx. 2.5 mm (0.098 inch).
- Tighten bolt -3-.
- Remove steering wheel -1- again.
- Install trim, in reverse order of removal.
- Install steering wheel bolts and tighten. Multi-point socket head bolt: 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
- Make one center punch mark on multi-point socket head bolt.

Note: Multi-point socket head bolts with five center punch marks must be replaced!

If a new steering column has been installed, center point can be determined via test drive.





- Mark steering column, after center point has been determined.
- Mark -A- on hub of steering wheel
- Center -B- punch mark on steering column
- Install airbag unit.

WARNING: When connecting battery make sure no one is in vehicle!
