Restraint System - Seat Belt Lamp ON with Belt Buckled

Safety Belt Light Stays ON With Drivers Side Safety Belt Buckled

Condition

Safety belt light remains on even if driver side safety belt is buckled. Safety belt light turns off if driver and front passenger safety belt is buckled.

No DTCs are stored in Airbag DTC memory.

Condition may be due to the instrument cluster being coded for the Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS) when the vehicle is not equipped with PODS.

Service

Check instrument cluster coding as follows:

- Connect the VAS 5051/5052 Diagnostic tool.

- Switch ignition ON.

- From the Start-up screen, select "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis".





- Select vehicle system "17-Dash panel insert".





- Check dash panel insert module coding number:

- Vehicles without PODS will have a number starting with "9" (example: 9232).

- Vehicles with PODS will have a number starting with "11" (example: 11232).

If dash panel insert is not coded correctly:

- Record last 3 digits of module coding number.

- Select forward arrow ~ on navigation bar.





- Select diagnosis function "07 - Code control unit".

Vehicles without PODS:

- Input "9 plus recorded 3 digits" on keypad.

- Select "Q" button to confirm.

Vehicles with PODS:

- Input "11 plus recorded 3 digits" on keypad.

- Select "Q" button to confirm.

^ Dash panel insert will now be coded.





- Make sure coding is successfully completed -arrow-.

- Select backward arrow <-- on navigation bar to exit diagnostics.





When procedure applies to vehicles with in the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, use the table.
