Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132-, Significance
Checking EPC lamp
The Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132- is the Malfunction Indicator Lamp for the electronic accelerator (E-gas) system.
Location of Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132-
The Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- checks all the important functions of the Electronic Power Control (EPC) after switching on the ignition.
The Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- switches the Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132- on for about 1 second during the test of this component. If a malfunction is recognized during the test, the lamp will light continuously.
If malfunctions are recognized in Electronic Power Control (EPC) when the engine is in operation, the EPC lamp is switched on. The signal is sent by the ECM to the instrument cluster and the instrument cluster turns on the EPC lamp. These malfunctions are listed in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) table. Simultaneously an entry is made in the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- DTC memory.
Test conditions
- All fuses must be OK
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V
Functional check:
- Switch on ignition.
Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132- must light-up.
If the Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132- does not light-up with ignition switched on:
- Check instrument cluster and EPC lamp
If the Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132- lights-up with ignition switched on, continue check as follows:
- Start engine and run at idle speed.
Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132- must go out after a few seconds.
If the Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp -K132- does not go out:
- Perform an automatic test sequence; if necessary, repair any malfunctions and then erase DTC memory. Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Read-out readiness code. If DTC memory has been erased or Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- was disconnected from battery positive (B+), readiness code must be generated again. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
