Procedure After Correcting Voltage Supply Open Circuit

All values learned by the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- and the basic setting values as well as the readiness code will be erased if the voltage supply is interrupted. Therefore, depending upon the vehicle mileage it can lead to serious engine running problems.

Special tools, test equipment and auxiliary items
- VAG1551 scan tool or VAG1552 mobile scan tool with VAG1551/3B cable

Work sequence

Perform the following operations after voltage supply open circuit:
- Switch ignition on for at least 10 seconds.
- Switch off ignition.
- Adapt Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- to Throttle Valve Control Module -J338-
- Perform idle check
- Generate readiness code


NOTE: During idling check the EVAP canister purge regulator valve and the air conditioner are switched off and the oxygen sensor control learning procedure is initiated.


- Perform a longer test drive until poor driving characteristics are eliminated.
Observe the valid safety precautions when road testing.

During the road test the following operating conditions must be fulfilled:
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) must exceed 80°C

When the temperature is reached, the operating conditions:
- Idling
- Part throttle
- Full throttle
- Overrun

Must be obtained several times.
- At full throttle the speed must exceed 3500 RPM
