Lighting - Headlamp Harness Replacement

Condition
Headlight Electrical Connection, Repair

If service or accident damage necessitates headlight harness repair or connector replacement, Do Not replace the headlight assembly or repair the harness. Replace the complete headlight assembly wiring harness.

DO NOT replace headlight assembly or repair harness for this condition.

Replace complete wiring harness -6- as follows:
- Remove headlight assembly. Refer to Repair Manual, Electrical Equipment, Repair Group 94.
- Remove cover -2- to access headlight bulb harness -6-.





Remove wire connectors at high beam and low beam bulbs -arrows-.

NOTE: Wire connectors may be locking type. Press release tabs to disengage. It may be necessary to use needle nose pliers to access connectors. - Remove ground wire connectors at bulb holders.





To remove headlight harness connector in the following step:
- Press tabs -arrows- at sides of headlight harness connector to remove connector from headlight assembly.





- Disengage headlight harness connector -A- from headlight.
- Remove complete headlight wire harness from headlight.

If headlight bulbs require replacement:
- Install new bulb(s) at this time.

NOTE:
- Make sure glass bulb is not handled with bare hands to avoid "hot spotting".
- If bulb must be replaced, Do Not use high intensity light bulbs in this application.
- Use only original VW spare parts.

- Install new harness Part No: 1C0 971 671.
- Reassemble headlight assembly.
- Install headlight assembly. Refer to Repair Manual, Electrical Equipment, Repair Group 94.
- Adjust headlights. Refer to Technical Bulletin instance 2002487 dated Dec. 23, 1998.
