Technical Background
May be caused by a loose attachment screw -arrow- for the top cover latch handle mechanism.
Production Solution
100% application of LOCTITE(R) 242(R) to screw threads beginning with VIN: 1Y_4M350575.
Service
If top handle will not return to the correct resting position after opening or closing the top:
- Prior to replacing any parts, check the handle attachment screw torque as follows:
- Remove Convertible top front latch assembly.See Repair Manual, Body Exterior - Convertible Top.
Using a torque wrench., verify residual screw torque:
- Torque must be between 20 Nm and 27 Nm (15 lbft and 20 lbft).
If torque is less than 20 Nm (15 lbft):
- Torque was incorrect and caused the condition.
In either case, after residual screw torque is verified:
- Remove screw, clean screw threads and apply 2 drops of LOCTITE(R) 242(R) (obtain from local supplier) to the threads.
- Reinstall and tighten screw to the following:
- Torque = 24 Nm (18 lbft).
- Reinstall convertible top front latch assembly.See Repair Manual, Body Exterior - Convertible Top.
