Sunroof / Moonroof Motor: Service and Repair

Drive Motor For Sunroof, Removing

NOTE: Only remove and install drive motor for sunroof when roof is closed (zero position).

- Disconnect Ground (GND) strap from battery







- Unclip trim - 1 - in - direction of arrow - and remove.







- Remove bolts - 1 - and carefully unhook retaining frame locking lugs - arrows - of automatic preselector.







- Disconnect harness connector - arrow -.







- Pull off rear edge of trim (with clock) - 1 - downward from roof trim and disengage trim at front edge.
- Disconnect harness connector - 2 - for interior light (and clock).







- Pull rearview mirror - 1 - down at an angle to release from retaining plate - arrow - (retaining springs in base of mirror).







- Pry out make-up lighting using screwdriver and disconnect harness connectors.







- Unhook sun visor - 1 - out of mount - 2 -.
- Pry off cap - 6 -.
- Remove bolt - 5 -.
- Remove sun visor mount - 4 - from mounting and disconnect harness connector - 3 -.
- Pry off cap - 7 -.
- Remove bolts - 8 - and remove mounts - 2 -.







- Remove left and right roof grab handles.
- Fold grab handle - 1 - downward.
- Pry up covers - 2 - using a screwdriver and fold upward.
- Remove Phillips-head bolts - 3 - and remove grab handle - 1 -.
- Remove left and right A-pillar trim







- Carefully unhook molded headliner at front roof cutout - arrows - and pull downward until bolts of sunroof drive can be accessed.
- Unclip and disconnect harness connector.







- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove drive motor for sunroof.

The bolts for the drive motor are microencapsulated and must always be replaced (3.5 Nm).
