Replacing Airbag Unit After An Accident

CAUTION:
- Front Advanced Airbags on the passenger side of a New Beetle Sedan or Convertible, that have only deployed the first stage, can cause serious personal injury if the second stage deploys inadvertently.
- Always carefully follow safety precautions when working on airbag systems or handling airbag units that have not deployed or have not deployed completely.
- Never throw front Advanced Airbag units for the passenger side of a New Beetle Sedan or Convertible in the trash or in with other materials that are to be scrapped


Characteristics of vehicles with "Advanced Airbag System" :







a. Vehicles with "Advanced Airbag System"







b. Vehicles without "Advanced Airbag System"

Accident where airbag deployed
After replacing airbag units or airbag control module, labels (only tear-off strips) of new components must be attached to "registration card 2 for airbag systems". To register send "Registration card 2 for airbag systems" to manufacturer.

Always replace the following:
- All deployed airbag units with control modules and sensors
- Supports for passenger module
- Return spring with slip ring
- All seatbelts with belt tensioners that have been triggered
- If necessary (visual check) also replace the following: all damaged components

Accident where airbag did not deploy
- If airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K75 does not indicate a DTC, airbag components do not need to be replaced. Check seatbelts separately.
