Molded Headliner, Removing And Installing

CAUTION: Before working on electrical system: Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap

NOTE: Slight changes may have to be made to removal and installation procedures, depending upon equipment installed in vehicle.

Removing
- Switch ignition off.
- Remove upper A-pillars trim.
- Remove door inner seals at top.







- Pry out make-up lighting using screwdriver and disconnect harness connectors.







- Unhook sun visor - 1 - out of mount - 2 -.
- Pry off cap - 6 -.
- Remove bolt - 5 -.
- Remove sun visor mount - 4 - from mounting and disconnect harness connector - 3 -.
- Pry off cap - 7 -.
- Remove bolts - 8 - and remove mounts - 2 -.







- Pull off rear edge of trim - 1 - (with clock) downward from roof trim and disengage trim at front edge.
- Disconnect harness connector - 2 - for interior light (and clock).







- Pull rearview mirror - 1 - down at an angle - arrow - to release from retaining plate (retaining springs in base of mirror).

Vehicles with eyeglass compartment (on roof) above windshield







- Open eyeglass compartment and unclip cover - 2 - - arrow -.
- Pull out eyeglass compartment (insert) in direction of vehicle interior.
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 3 -.
- Remove eyeglass compartment from roof trim.

Vehicles with eyeglass compartment (on roof), drivers side







- Fold eyeglass compartment - 1 - downward.
- Pry up covers - 2 - using a screwdriver and fold upward.
- Remove Phillips-head screws - 3 - and remove eyeglass compartment - 1 -.

Vehicles with sunroof







- Unclip trim - 1 - in - direction of arrow - and remove.







- Remove bolts - 1 - and carefully unhook retaining frame locking lugs - arrows - of automatic preselector.







- Disconnect harness connector - arrow -.







- Fold grab handle - 1 - downward.
- Pry up covers - 2 - using a screwdriver and fold upward.
- Remove Phillips-head screws - 3 - and remove grab handle - 1 -.







- Unclip cover strip - 1 -.

Vehicles without interior monitoring







- Remove interior lights and disconnect harness connectors.

Reading light with interior monitoring, removing







- Using removal tool - 1 -, press spring for reading light - 2 - toward rear.







- Remove reading light - 3 - and disconnect harness connector.

NOTE: When operating spring - 2 -, make sure that removal tool - 1 - does not stick between molded headliner - 4 - and metal frame in molded headliner - 5 -.

Vehicles with sunroof







- Disengage molded headliner at front roof opening - arrows -.

Continuation for all vehicles







- Pull front of molded headliner - 1 - downward and swing forward below windshield over B-pillar trim - 2 - - arrow -.







- Lower molded headliner - 1 - together with second technician (caution: danger of breakage.) and remove from vehicle.

CAUTION: Damage can occur to molded headliner when lowering.

Installing
- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.







- When sliding in roof trim - 1 -, retaining lugs along rear edge of roof trim must be pushed into mountings - arrows - at roof edge - 2 -.
- On vehicles with sliding/tilting sunroof, molded headliner cutout must first be hooked into rear then into front roof opening.
