About Trouble Codes
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) table
Note:
^ At the beginning of every fault finding an automatic test sequence must be initiated (key function O and O) for every control module in the vehicle because the control modules are connected with one another via two data bus wires. When doing this the vehicle control modules are checked for possible faults.
^ If a fault occurs only occasionally or if the DTC memory was not erased after correcting the faults, these faults will be displayed as "sporadic faults" for a stipulated period of time - Transmission control module fault recognition.
^ All the possible faults which are recognized by the automatic Transmission Control Module -J217- and can be printed out on the VAG 1551 or the VAS 5051 are listed up as a 5-digit fault code.
^ The DTC appears (in the "Rapid data transfer" mode) on the print-out only.
DTC example:
^ For some DTC's a 5-digit P-code also appears.
^ The 3-digit fault type number is a data code which can be disregarded. Any text for the fault type must be considered.
^ If components are indicated as being faulty by the DTC memory, additionally test the wiring to the components for short and open circuits according to the wiring diagram.
^ After repairs the DTC memory must be checked again with the VAG 1551 Scan Tool or the tester VAS 5051 and erased.
