Check DTC Memory (Function 02)




DTC Memory, Checking (Function 02)

Check DTC Memory of all control modules, Refer Automatic test sequence


If the voltage supply is interrupted, the engine control module loses all the "learned" and/or "basic" values for oxygen sensor control, idling speed and charge pressure. Therefore considerable driving characteristic problems may occur depending on vehicle mileage.

In this case:
- Perform idling check Testing and Inspection
- Perform a longer test drive until the poor driving characteristics are eliminated.

Special tools and equipment
- VAG1551 scan tool (or VAG1552 mobile scan tool) with VAG1551/3B cable

Work sequence


NOTE: All functions which could previously be performed with VAG1551/1552 can also be performed with the new tester VAS5051.


- Connect VAG1551 scan tool (VAG1552). Start engine and select "Address word" 01 of engine control module. When doing this the engine must be running at idling speed. (Connecting scan tool and selecting engine control module.) [1][2][3]Connecting VAG 1551 Scan Tool


NOTE:
Only when engine does not start:
- Operate starter for approx. 6 seconds and then do not switch off the ignition.


- Switch on scan tool printer with print key. The warning lamp in key must light up.

Indicated on display:

Select function XX



- Operate scan tool taking into account information on display:
- Press keys 0 and 2 for function "Check DTC Memory" and confirm entry with Q key.

The number of malfunctions stored or "No DTC recognized!" will be shown on the display.


X DTCs recognized!


NOTE:
If no DTC is stored:
- Press -> key.


If one or more DTCs are stored:
The stored DTCs will be displayed and printed out one after the other.

After the stored DTCs have been printed out, the display will show:
