Solenoid Valves In Valve Body, Checking

Recommended special tools and equipment
- V.A.G 1526 multimeter or V.A.G 1715 multimeter
- V.A.G 1594 connector test kit
- Wiring diagram

Requirements
- Respective fuses must be OK:
- Selector lever must be in -P- position.
- All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster must be switched off.
- Parking brake must be engaged.
- Ground (GND) connections to transmission must be OK.
- Ignition switched off.

Check solenoid valves:

Vehicles with 01M transmission

Test sequence
- Disconnect 12-pin harness connector at transmission.
Observe safety precautions.

- Check harness connector for contact corrosion and ingress of water.

If harness connector is not OK.
- Repair the malfunction.
- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM), Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If harness connector is OK:
- Check resistance of solenoid valves.

Checking resistance of solenoid valves
- Re-connect 12-pin connector.
- Connect test box to control module wiring harness. Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test
- Measure resistance of solenoid valves at test box between sockets:

NOTE: Resistance value is valid at approx. 20 degrees C. At higher temperatures, resistance value increases.

If one of the specified values is not obtained:
- Check wires to Transmission Control Module (TCM) according to wiring diagram.

Checking wires to Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Disconnect 12-pin harness connector at transmission.

- Check wires between test box and 12-pin connector to Transmission Control Module (TCM) for open circuit according to wiring diagram. Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms

- Check wires for short circuit to each other.
Specified value: Infinite Ohms

If no malfunctions are found in wires:
- Replace circuit board or valve body.
- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM), Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

Vehicles with 09A transmission

Test sequence

- Disconnect 20-pin harness connector -2-.
Observe safety precautions.

- Check harness connector for contact corrosion and ingress of water.

If harness connector is not OK.
- Repair the malfunction.
- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM), Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If harness connector is OK.
- Check wire for Ground (GND) refeed of valve body according to wiring diagram.

Checking Ground (GND) refeed of valve body
- Connect test box to control module wiring harness. Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test
- Check wire between test box sockets 64 + 68 for short circuit to B+ according to wiring diagram.
Specified value: Infinite Ohms

- Check wires between test box and 20-pin connector to Transmission Control Module (TCM) for open circuit according to wiring diagram.

Terminal 18 + socket 64

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms

If specified values are obtained:
- Re-connect 20-pin connector.
- Check wires between test box sockets 1 + 64 and 24 + 64 for open circuit according to wiring diagram.
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms

If specified value is not obtained:
- Check internal wires in valve body:

If specified value is obtained:
- Check resistances of solenoid valves

Checking resistance of solenoid valves
- Measure resistance of solenoid valves at test box between socket of corresponding solenoid valve to socket 1 according to wiring diagram:

Component Specified value Ohms
Solenoid valve 1 -N88- 9.0 to 24.0
Solenoid valve 2 -N89- 9.0 to 24.0
Solenoid valve 3 -N90- 9.0 to 24.0
