Bonded rubber bushing, removing and installing





Special tools and equipment
^ VW 771 Multi-purpose tool
^ 3301 Assembly tool
^ 3346 Assembly tool
^ 3416/1 Press piece
^ 3416/2 Press piece 3416/3 Support tube

Removing





- Unclip brake cable -arrows-.
- Pull off clips -2- on both sides.
- Remove bolts -1- on rear axle bearing bracket on both sides.





- Position a wood block approx. 100 mm (3.34 inch) long between rear axle and body.
- Install special tool VW 771 and pull out bonded rubber bushing.

Installing

Bonded rubber bushing has a mark -1- on face.





Mark must align with edge -arrow- on trailing arm -2-.
- Mark position of mark -1- on bonded rubber bushing.





- Assemble special tool with bonded rubber bushing.





- Install bonded rubber bushing and special tool on rear axle.
- Make sure that the mark aligns with the edge of the trailing arm!
- Install (pull in) bonded rubber bushing by turning spindle.
- Check position of bonded rubber bushing after installing.
- Grease the bonded rubber bushing kidney shaped cavity with assembly paste G 052 150 A2 before installing rear axle.

Further installation of rear axle is performed in reverse order

Tightening torques

Bearing bracket to rear axle 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)
Use new nuts and bolts!
