Rear Axle Beam, Assembly Overview


Rear axle beam, assembly overview

Note:

Welding and straightening on axle beam and stub axle is not permissible.





^ Always replace self-locking nuts.

1. Wheel bolt, 120 Nm (89 ft. lbs.)
2. Phillips-head screw
3. Brake disc
4. Dust cap

^ Replace each time after removing

A perfect seal is only achieved using a new dust cap.

Only then is possible an optimum function and long service life guaranteed.

5. Self-locking 12-point nut, 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing
6. Wheel hub with wheel bearings

The wheel bearing and wheel hub are installed together in a housing.

This wheel bearing/hub unit is maintenance and adjustment free. Adjusting and servicing is not possible!

7. Hex head bolt, 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing
8. Splash plate
9. Parking brake cable bracket
10. Parking brake cable
11. Self-locking hex nut, 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing
^ When tightening nut, the axle beam must be in the horizontal position (unladened vehicle state)
12. Hex bolt, 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing

If the welded nut threads in the cross member are damaged, the thread can be serviced with Heli-coil thread insert.

Servicing threads in longitudinal member, Refer to Sub Frame, Service and Repair

13. Hex bolt, 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing
14. Rear axle bearing bracket
^ Check and if necessary adjust rear axle toe after installation
^ If possible do not loose when removing the rear axle
15. Parking brake cable clip
16. Bonded rubber bushing
17. Hydraulic bonded rubber bushing

Bushing must be replaced if leaking
18. Axle beam
^ Stub axle contact surfaces and threaded holes are to be free of paint and dirt
19. Speed sensor
20. Hex socket head bolt, 8 Nm (70 inch lbs.)
21. Bolt, 20 Nm (14.8 ft. lbs.) plus additional 45° turn
^ Replace each time after removing
22. Vibration damper
^ Replace each time after removing
23. Spacer bushing
Material: Zinc

- Check bushing for damage

24. Coil spring

~ Application: Determine part number from Parts Supplier

25. Spring seat
26. Hex bolt, 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing
27. Hex bolt, 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing

If the welded nut threads in the cross member are damaged, the thread can be serviced with Heli-coil thread insert.
28. Shock absorber

29. Hex nut
^ Replace each time after removing
^ The axle beam must be in the middle position when tightening the nut

We recommend that the rear of the vehicle be loaded with the weight of one person when tightening

30. Stub axle
^ Straightening operations are not allowed!
^ Recutting the thread is not allowed!
31. Stone protection plate
32. Hex socket head bolt, 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.)
^ Replace each time after removing
33. Brake caliper
^ Servicing
