Note: Lubricate all mountings and sliding surfaces with Polyurea grease Part No. G 052 142 A2.





1. Shift lever knob
- Screw on and off together with cover
2. Cover
- Separating from shift lever knob see Fig. 1
- Connect to shift lever knob before installing
3. Securing clip
- Always replace
4. Spacer sleeve
5. Spring
6. Ball stop
- Insert spring and bush in the ball stop and assemble on the shift lever so that the spring and bush are on the right when looking forwards.
- Install ball stop before fitting circlip (item 18).

- Fitting position: The rounded end faces the shift lever

- Only fits in one position in the ball housing

Notes: Carefully pull bellows over selector rod

- Place bellows on the marks on selector rod and push rod

- Turn cover inside out.
- Carefully lever segment with a screwdriver in direction of arrow; at the same time pull the shift lever knob out.

Selector mechanism, removing and installing
Removing
- Carefully lever the cover off the center console.
- Then unscrew the shift lever knob with cover.





- The rubber cover for the shift lever housing must be removed (arrows).





- Now remove the shift lever housing securing nuts (arrows).
- Separate exhaust system behind the catalyst, if necessary remove front exhaust system.





Remove selector mechanism from transmission as follows:
- Remove selector rod (arrow -A-).
- Remove push rod, to do this remove hexagon socket head bolt (arrow -B-).
- Remove front heat shield above exhaust system.
- Swing shift lever housing with selector rod and push rod down and remove.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
Adjust selector mechanism.

Tightening torques
Shift lever housing to body 10 Nm
Push rod to transmission 40 Nm
Selector rod (selector joint) to transmission 23 Nm
Use new bolts!
