Differential Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection
Gear oil in front final drive, checking
Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
- VAG 1306 Drip tray
- 3247 Socket AF 8
Oil level is checked with transmission installed
- Drive the vehicle a short distance to warm up the gear oil.
- Position vehicle on hard, level standing on 4 pillar hoist or over pit.
- Switch off engine and let gear oil drain for 5 minutes.
- Place drip tray VAG 1306 underneath.
- Remove sealing plug -arrow-.
The oil level is correct when the front final drive is full to the lower edge of the filler hole.
- Allow excess gear oil to pour out or top up as necessary.
Specification
- If gear oil needs to be replenished following repair work, fill front final drive slowly and evenly over a period of at least 5 minutes until the gear oil drips out over the lower edge of the oil filler hole.
A filling time of at least 5 minutes is necessary to allow the oil to settle evenly in the differential and cavity.
- Screw in original sealing plug -arrow
- Drive the vehicle a short distance to warm up the gear oil.
- Check oil level in front final drive.
- If the oil level is OK, replace front final drive sealing plug -arrow-
