If sensor malfunctions, the ABS Control module coding is set to "0" and must be coded again. Coding cannot take place if angle sensor is malfunctioning.Prior to replacing ABS Control module:
- Check steering angle sensor and replace if malfunctioning.
Do not replace ABS Control module unless malfunctioning sensor replacement and subsequent ABS control module recoding does not eliminate DTC 01044.
Note:
VAS 5051 Guided fault finding will be updated to include Control module coding with the next release. Until the update is in place, use the following to check Steering angle sensor and recode control Module.
Steering angle sensor, checking
- With VAS 5051 or VAS 5052 Diagnostic tool connected and ignition switched ON.
- From VAS 5051 Start-up screen, select "Vehicle Self Diagnosis".
- Use scroll bar to scroll down.
- Select vehicle system "03 - Brake electronics".
- Select diagnosis function "08 - Read data block".
- Input 5 on keypad to select "Measuring value block 005".
- Press "Q" on keypad to confirm.
- Observe steering angle sensor reading (arrow).
^ With steering wheel centered reading should be approx. 0.0°.
- Turn steering wheel slowly to the left while observing reading.
^ Reading should increase smoothly (without skipping or fluctuating)
- Turn steering wheel slowly to the right while observing reading.
^ Reading should decrease smoothly (without skipping or fluctuating)
If Steering angle sensor requires replacement, code control module as follows:
ABS control module, coding
- Obtain appropriate options from locations -1-, -2- and -3- (1LC, T9H and GOQ in example (your options may vary)) on content sticker (similar to sticker shown) located inside spare tire well in luggage compartment.
- Contact the Dealer Technician Helpline at 1-800-678-2389 to obtain correct log-in and code numbers to code control module.
Once log-in number and control module coding has been obtained from Helpline:
- Return VAS 5051/5052 to "Select diagnosis function".
- Select vehicle system "03 - Brake electronics".
- Select diagnosis function "11 - Log-in procedure".
- Input Log-in number (obtained from Helpline) on keypad.
- Press "Q" on keypad to confirm.
- Screen appears as shown.
- Select < to continue.
- Select diagnosis function "07 - Code control unit".
- Input Control module coding (obtained from helpline) on keypad.
- Press "Q" on keypad to confirm.
- Screen appears as shown.
- Control module coding appears (arrow)
- Turn steering wheel one turn to the right.
- Return steering wheel to center.
- Turn steering wheel one turn to the left.
- Return steering wheel to center.
- Select < to continue.
- Select diagnosis function "11 - Log-in procedure".
- Input Log-in number 40168 (for steering angle sensor) on keypad.
- Press "Q" on keypad to confirm.
- Select < to continue.
- Select diagnosis function "04 - Basic settings".
- Input display group 001 on keypad
- Press "Q" on keypad to confirm.
- Basic settings should indicate sensor "OK".
- Select "Go to" then "Exit" to return to the Main menu.
