Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) (function 03)
Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) is a part of the electrical test. The following components can be checked via Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM):
- Tachometer
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) gauge
- Fuel gauge
- Speedometer
- Warning lamps
- Indicator lamp for seat belt warning system (if activated via coding)
- Buzzer/chime
- Display indications (odometer, multifunction indicator or digital clock, selector position indicator for automatic transmission)
- If Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) recognizes a malfunction, instrument cluster must be replaced.
- If Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) does not recognize a malfunction, check wires and harness connectors to the instrument cluster.

Initiating output DTM

NOTE:
- If engine is started or vehicle is moved, Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) of the instrument cluster cannot be initiated and will be terminated if in progress.
- Test sequence can be ended at any time by pressing the -C- button.
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer", switch ignition on and enter address word 17 for "instrument cluster".
After control module identification and identification number of immobilizer are displayed :
- Press -> button.

- Press buttons -0- and -3-. This selects "Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)", function 3.

03 - Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)


- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
There are no indications in any displays and all control lamps to be tested switch off.

Analog indicators

The following tests will be performed after Q button is pressed:
- Sweep of tachometer needle through entire display range
- Sweep of coolant temperature needle through entire display range
- Sweep of fuel supply needle through entire display range
- Sweep of speedometer needle through entire display range

After sweep of display ranges, the following fixed values are displayed:
Tachometer: 3000 rpm
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) gauge: 90°c
Fuel gauge: 1/2
Speedometer: 100 km/h

- Press -> button.

Segment test


Midline and Lowline instrument clusters:
All segments of LCD display in speedometer and tachometer are activated and become visible.

Also equipment dependent for Midline instrument clusters:
All segments of indicator unit in center display field become visible.
Additionally for Highline instrument clusters:
All segments of indicator unit for control lamps and navigation become visible.

Warning lamps are coded according to vehicle equipment .
The warning lamps for coded functions are activated and remain lit constantly.

NOTE:
Nothing is indicated in the center display during the warning lamp test in Highline and Midline instrument clusters.

Seat belt warning light -K19- lights up (if activated via coding)
- Press -> button.

- Press -> button.

Chime


Chime is activated: A constant warning tone is sounded.
- Press -> button.

Buzzer/chime is activated: A warning tone sounds in intervals.
