Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) (Function 03)




Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) (function 03)

The Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) is part of the electrical check. The following components and systems are checked via Output DTM:
- Tachometer
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Gauge
- Fuel gauge
- Speedometer
- Instrument cluster liquid quartz display (LCD) segments
- Engine Coolant Level/Temperature (ECL/ECT) warning lamp
- Brake pad wear warning lamp
- Low fuel level warning lamp
- Oil pressure warning lamp
- Low windshield washer fluid level indicator
- Anti-theft immobilizer warning lamp
- Brake/parking brake system warning lamp
- Seat belt warning lamp
- Warning buzzer/chime

- If a malfunction is determined when performing Output DTM, exchange instrument cluster.
- If no malfunction is determined when performing Output DTM, check wiring and connections to instrument cluster using wiring diagram.

Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM), initiating


NOTE:
- Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) cannot be initiated, or will be interrupted if engine is running or vehicle is moving.
- Use the -C- button to exit the test sequence at any time.


- Connect scan tool VAG 1551, select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer", switch on ignition and enter address word 17 "instrument cluster".
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Press -> button until "Select function"is shown in display.

- Press buttons -0- and -3- to select "Output Diagnostic Test Mode" function 03.

NOTE:
- The Scan Tool (ST) display indicates the instrument cluster components being tested.
- Press -> button to advance through all tests in sequence.


The following analog gauge functional checks are initiated after pressing the -Q- button:
- Tachometer -G5- needle moves over complete display range and then displays fixed value of 3000 rpm
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Gauge -G3- needle moves over complete display range and then displays fixed value of 90 °C
- Fuel Gauge -G1- needle moves over complete display range and then displays fixed value of 1/2
- Speedometer -G21- needle moves over complete display range and then displays fixed value of 100 km/h (62mph)
- Press -> button.

Segment test



All liquid quartz display (LCD) segments in instrument cluster are activated and become visible.

- Press -> button.

The following warning and indicator lamps are activated in sequence and remain lit:
- Engine Coolant Level/Temperature (ECL/ECT) Warning Light -K28-
- Brake Pad Wear Indicator Light -K32- 1)
- Low Fuel Level Warning Light -K105-
- Oil Pressure Warning Light -K3-
- Low Windshield Washer Fluid Level Indicator Light -K106- 1)
- Warning light for anti-theft immobilizer
- Brake and Parking Brake Warning Light -K7-
- Seat Belt Warning Light -K19- 1)

1) Instrument cluster must be coded accordingly in order for these warning/indicator lights to function. Instrument Cluster, Coding Through MY2002 (Function 07)


- Press -> button.

The buzzer/chime is activated in intervals.

The warning buzzer is activated continuously.
