No Load Voltage, Checking
No load voltage measurementSpecial tools and equipment
Multimeter Fluke 83 or equivalent
- Switch ignition off.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
After a waiting period of at least 2 hours, during which the battery must not be loaded or charged:
- Measure battery voltage using multimeter.
The battery no load voltage must be lower than 12.5 V.
If the multimeter displays 12.5 V or more the battery voltage is OK.
If the multimeter displays a battery voltage below 12.5 V:
- Charge battery.
After a waiting period of at least 2 hours, during which the battery must not be loaded or charged:
- Measure battery voltage using multimeter.
The battery no load voltage must be lower than 12.5 V.
- If battery no load voltage is not OK, replace battery.
