Ribbed Belt, Removing and Installing
Ribbed Belt, Removing And Installing
NOTE:
- Always replace ribbed belt if found to be faulty. This will avoid related break-downs or operating problems.
- If a used ribbed belt is to be reused, mark direction of rotation before removing. When installing used ribbed belts observe the direction of rotation marked on removal. Installing opposite to the direction of rotation leads to belt damage
- It is not necessary to adjust the ribbed belt tension, as a spring loaded tensioner guarantees the best possible belt tension
Preparation, all engines
- Remove securing bolts -arrows- and remove the middle cover of the engine compartment noise insulation.
- Remove hex nut, unclip securing clips -arrows- and remove right-hand engine cover of the compartment noise insulation.
All gasoline engines, continued:
- Mark direction of rotation of ribbed belt if it is to be reused.
- To slacken ribbed belt turn tensioning element in direction of arrow.
- Block tensioner with mandrel T10060.
- Remove ribbed belt.
Ribbed Belt, Removing (1 .9L 4-cylinder TDI Engine With Power Steering Pump And A/C Compressor)
- Lever off cover caps -arrows-in engine cover -A- with a screwdriver.
- Remove securing nuts -arrows-.
- Lift engine cover -A- from engine.
- Remove charge air pipe between charge air cooler and exhaust turbocharger.
- Mark direction of rotation of ribbed belt if it is to be reused.
- Swing tensioning roller in direction of arrow using open law spanner 16 mm A/F on tensioning lever.
- Remove ribbed belt.
NOTE: Take ribbed belt off idler roller first
Ribbed belt, installing
NOTE:
- When installing used ribbed belts observe the direction of rotation marked on removal!
- Ensure, before installing ribbed belt, that all ancillaries (generator air conditioner compressor PAS vane pump) are secured tightly.
- On vehicles with air conditioner remove ribbed belt from idler roller first and fit on idler roller last when installing.
- When fitting the belt ensure the ribbed belt locates correctly in the pulleys!
- Swing tensioning roller in direction of arrow using 16 mm open-end wrench on tensioning lever.
- Fit ribbed belt.
- Install charge air pipe.
- Start engine and check belt running.
- Fit engine cover.
- Install center and right-hand covers for engine compartment noise insulation.
