Engine Mount: Service and Repair




CAUTION: Engine and transmission must be supported by 10-222A engine support bridge before loosening bolts.

Engine/transmission mounts

Engine/Transaxle Mount Alignment Points:




- With the engine lifting device connected align guide pins on right rear mount (left) and front mount (right) to recesses on brackets (arrows).

Replacing front cross member rubber bushings

- Install 1O-222A engine support bridge with 1O-222A/1 bracket for engine.
- Connect engine sling in hook eye on cylinder head (left side) and tighten to lift engine slightly.
- Remove front cross member.




- Pry washers off spacer sleeves with pliers.
- Remove spacer sleeves and pull off bonded rubber bushings.
- Install new bonded rubber bushings and insert spacer sleeves as far as possible.




- Install washers -1- over 3302 peening punch and onto bonded rubber bushing -2-
- Install pressure sleeve of 3302 peening punch and press on.
- Crimp washers on spacer sleeves using press. Use VW432 arbor as support.
- If necessary, remove burrs caused by crimping

Engine/transmission mount torque

- Specifications are for lightly oiled bolts.

Front engine/transmission mount




A 55 Nm (41 ft lb)
B 55 Nm (41 ft lb)
C 55 Nm (41 ft lb)

Right rear engine/transmission mount




A 25 Nm (l8 ft lb)
B 60 Nm (44 ft lb)
C 25 Nm (l8 ft lb)

Right engine/transmission mount (Cabrio only)




A 50 Nm (37 ft lb)
B 35 Nm (26 ft lb)
C 25 Nm (l8 ft lb)

Left rear engine/transmission mount




A 6O Nm (44 ft lb)
C 3O Nm (22 ft lb)
D 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

Front cross member to Body

Bolt 50 Nm (37 ft lb)
