Note: During removal and installation procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes and procedures below.
Component Notes
Bolt (2)
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).
Radiator (3)
- After replacing radiator, replace coolant.
V-belt (4)
- Only with optional equipment.
Guide Ring (5)
- Note installed position.
- Attached to fan shroud with clips.
Auxiliary Fan (9)
- Only installed on models with optional equipment.
Fan Shroud (10)
- Note installed position.
To Coolant Pipe Or Connector Flange (14)
- On models with manual transmission, connects to item No. 13 of coolant pipe diagram, refer to Radiator Hose.
- On models with automatic transmission, connects to item No. 9 of coolant pipe diagram, refer to Radiator Hose.
To ATF Cooler (15)
- On models with automatic transmission.
Cap (17)
- Pressure test with tester tool No. VAG 1274 and adapter VAG 1274/4.
- Pressure specifications: 1.3-1.5 bar (19-22 psi).
Coolant Fan Control Thermal Switch (18)
- Tighten to: 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
- Switching temperatures:
- 1st stage:
ON: 92-97°C (197-206°F)
OFF: 84-91°C (183-195°F)
- 2nd stage:
ON: 99-105°C (210-221°F)
OFF: 91-98°C (195-208°F)
Removing
Drain coolant
Refer to Cooling System, Service and Repair.
Remove front bumper.
Refer to Body and Frame, Bumper, Service and Repair Service and Repair
Disconnect coolant hoses from radiator.
Disconnect harness connectors from Coolant Fan Control (FC) thermal switch -F18- and coolant fan -V7-.
Remove headlights
Refer to Lighting and Horns, Headlamp, Service and Repair
Remove both radiator mounting bolts and remove radiator toward the front.
Vehicles with A/C
Observe additional information and procedure steps below
CAUTION: DO NOT open A/C refrigerant circuit. To prevent damage to condenser and to refrigerant lines/hoses, DO NOT stretch or kink them.
Remove Air Cleaner (ACL).
Refer to Powertrain Management, Fuel Delivery and Air Induction, Air Cleaner Housing Air Cleaner Housing
Remove both radiator mounting bolts.
Remove retaining clamps from A/C refrigerant lines.
Separate condenser from radiator and pull it forward as far as possible.
Remove radiator between condenser and lock carrier (radiator support)
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
Cooling system, filling
