Water Deflector Strip, Removing And Installing
Removing
- Remove plenum chamber cover.
- Heat strip using hot air gun and pull off water deflector strip.
- Set back eccentric (turn counterclockwise to loosen).
- Loosen sealing lip from window flange with plastic wedge and spray in cleaning solution D 009 401 04 (as substitute for lubricant).
- Place cutting thread in window flange with help of tube - 3 - (cutting wire may also be used).
- Pull cutting thread through adhesive sealing material into inside of vehicle with awl (from V.A.G 1474 A ). Cutting thread is doubled up to windshield wiper shaft.
- Secure outer end of thread to windshield wiper shaft.
- Secure inner end of thread to winding device.
- Place winding device V.A.G 1654 in " Position I".
- Move winding device according to position required and cut out windshield glass.
- Press cutting thread against window glass with plastic wedge during cutting process, in order to have clearance at window flange and instrument panel.
Installing
- Cover A-pillar and window glass using fabric reinforced adhesive tape.
- Remove surplus adhesive mechanically (e.g. using chisel).
NOTE: Surplus adhesive must be removed because an elevated installation position of water deflector strip can lead to wind noises.
- Repair paint damage using paint primer D 009 200 02.
- Clean water deflector strips using cleaning solution D 009 401 04, and then prime using paint primer D 009 200 02.
NOTE: Air drying time of 10 minutes must be observed for both work procedures, cleaning and priming.
- Apply 1K window glass adhesive DH 009 100 03 (approx. 1-2 mm in diameter) on primed surfaces.
- Position water deflector strips, press on and secure using fabric reinforced adhesive tape.
NOTE: A waiting time of two hours up must be observed before removing adhesive tape strips.
