Additional information

Flanged shaft (left side), removing
- Only loosen drive shaft/wheel hub bolt and wheel bolts when vehicle is standing on its wheels.
- Raise vehicle
- Remove wheel.
- Remove noise insulation for left axle shaft from wheel house.
- Remove axle shaft
- Place drain pan under transmission.





- Remove inspection plug (arrow) and draw off at least 0.5 liter (0.53 qt.) of gear oil from final drive using VAG 1358 A.
Oil must be drawn out of final drive, otherwise there is a risk of gear oil mixing with ATF
- Remove left axle shaft protective plate (if equipped).
- Remove speedometer sensor.
- Remove bracket for connector from flanged shaft bearing bracket.





- Remove flanged shaft bearing bracket (arrows).
- Remove flanged shaft.

Removing oil seal





- Remove circlip (arrow A) for grooved ball bearing (arrow B = O-ring).





- Press flanged shaft out of flanged shaft bearing bracket.
- Remove flanged shaft oil seal with VW 681.
