Front Cross-Member Bushing: Service and Repair



Subframe Bushings Replacing





Special tools required





Pulling out bonded rubber bushing
- Saw off/cut-off rubber shoulder on subframe bushing up to outer bushing.

Note: If the paint surface on the subframe is damaged, treat the surface for corrosion protection.





Pulling out rear bonded rubber bushing
If the rubber shoulder is not completely removed, tool 3372 cannot seat correctly and will fall off.





Pulling out bonded rubber bushing

Note: All bonded rubber bushings on the subframe are pulled out with the same tool.





Preparing to pull in subframe bushing
- Install tube 3372 and insert segments 3372/2.





Aligning bonded rubber bushing
The bonded rubber bushings must be aligned with a long square tube or a straightedge.
A = 90° ± 5°

Note: Always use protective jaw covers when clamping the subframe in a vise





Pulling in rear bonded rubber bushing
- Coat bonded rubber bushing with tire mounting lubricant or similar.
- Pull in bushing -A- until thrust piece 3372/1 aligns with upper edge of tool 3372.
- Remove tool 3372 and segments 3372/2 in an upward direction.





Pulling in rear bonded rubber bushing
- Insert tool segments 3372/2 between bridge 3351/4 and subframe.
- Pull bushing in onto stop.





Pulling in front bonded rubber bushing
- Coat bonded rubber bushing with tire mounting lubricant or similar.





- Insert tool segments 3372/2 in tube 3372.
- Pull in bushing -A- until thrust piece 3372/1 aligns with upper edge of tool 3372.





- Lift tube 3372 and remove segments 3372/2.
- Replace bridge 3351/4 with thrust piece 3351/1 and then push bushing in onto stop.
