Fuel Tank Pressure Release Valve: Testing and Inspection
Fuel Tank And Related Components:
The Breather Valve is located in the filler neck. It vents fuel vapor from the filler tube area to the expansion tank.
Evaporative Emissions Breather Valve:
When the fuel cap is installed it contacts and moves a lever within the valve. This opens the valve allowing fuel vapors to pass, preventing the charcoal canister from becoming saturated if parked on an incline with a full tank. The opposite is true when the cap is removed.
TESTING
- Remove the Breather Valve, press safety catch lightly inward (arrow) and pull valve out.
- Blow through the valve with the lever in rest position.
^ Air SHOULD NOT pass through valve.
- Blow through the valve with the lever pressed in arrow direction.
^ Air SHOULD pass through valve.
- If the valve fails either test, it should be replaced.
