Fuel Return Line: Description and Operation

The Fuel Return Line is located under the vehicle except where it enters the engine compartment and attaches to the fuel pressure regulator. The Fuel Return Line carries excess fuel that the main fuel pump supplies to the fuel injection system back to either the fuel reservoir or fuel tank. When excess fuel pressure is released by the fuel pressure regulator it enters the return line under no pressure to flow back to the fuel reservoir, where the return line is attached. If the fuel reservoir is full, the fuel then enters another return line at the fuel reservoir and flows back to the fuel tank to be stored.
