Central Locking System Pneumatic Operation, Troubleshooting

This bulletin supersedes Technical Bulletin, Group 57, 93-04 issued June 30, 1993
These procedures should help you troubleshoot the pneumatic operation of the central locking system on the above vehicles. These procedures are designed to help provide a quality repair.
^ Central locking does not operate
^ Central locking system operates slowly
^ Central locking system bi-pressure pump runs for extended period of time
^ Door(s) does not lock or unlock
GOLF AND GTI
Bi-pressure pump location:
^ Located below right tail light
T connector locations:
There are two T connectors at pump
^ The "T" connector directly above the pump directs the pressure to:
a) the gas filler flap and the hatch
b) all doors
^ The T connectors to the right of the pump directs the pressure to the gas filler flap and the hatch
T connector under rear seat on right side.
^ One side of the connector directs pressure to the right side doors and the other side directs pressure to the left doors
T connectors at bottom of both "B" pillars:
^ One side of the connector directs pressure to the rear door and the other side directs pressure to the front door
JETTA III
Bi-pressure pump location:
^ located in trunk, left side behind wheel housing
T connector locations:
There are two T connectors under the rear seat
^ T connector on the left side directs the pressure to:
a) the doors on the right side of the vehicle, gas tiller flap and the trunk
b) the other side of the connector directs pressure to the left doors
^ The T connector on the right side directs the pressure to:
- the gas filler flap, trunk and right doors
^ A T connector is located near the right taillight. It directs pressure to the hatch and the other side directs pressure to the gas filler flap.
T connector at bottom of both "B" pillars:
^ One side of the connector directs pressure to the rear door and the other side directs pressure to the front door.
If central locking system operates but one door does not lock/unlock or operates slowly, check for kinked or disconnected hose at:
^ T connector at "B" pillar or
^ at central connectors at or "A"or "B" pillar or
^ at activator for door lock or
- check operation of affected activator
