Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION

NOTE: During removal and installation procedures, refer to the component location illustration above and component notes below.

COMPONENT NOTES
Auxiliary Shaft Oil Seal (1)
- Remove to remove sealing flange.
- Install using installer tool No. 10-203, or equivalent.
- Lightly oil sealing lip, do NOT use grease.

Woodruff Key (2)
- Ensure tight fit.

Bolt (3)
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Gasket (5)
- Always replace.

Bolt (7)
- Tighten in two stages:
- First stage, tighten to: 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
- Second stage, turn an additional: 90° (1/4 turn).

Flywheel (8)
- Use counter holder tool No. 3067, or equivalent to remove and install.
- Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.

Bolt (9)
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).

Intermediate Plate (10)
- Must be located on dowels.
- Do not damage/bend when assembling.

Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Flange (11)
- Only replace complete.
- Lightly oil sealing lip of oil seal, do NOT grease.

Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal (12)
- Only replace with seal flange -11-.

O-ring (14)
- Replace if damaged.

COMPONENT NOTES
Auxiliary Shaft Oil Seal (1)
- Remove to remove sealing flange.
- Install using installer tool No. 10-203, or equivalent.
- Lightly oil sealing lip, do NOT use grease.

Washer (8)
- Note installed position.

Drive Plate (9)
- Use counter holder tool No. 3067, or equivalent to remove and install.
- Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.

Bolt 10)
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).

Intermediate Plate (11)
- Must be located on dowels.
- Do not damage/bend when assembling.

Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Flange (12)
- Only replace complete.
- Lightly oil sealing lip of oil seal, do NOT grease.

Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal (13)
- Only replace with seal flange -11-.

O-ring (15)
- Replace if damaged.


REMOVAL
1. Remove ribbed drive belt.
2. Remove toothed timing belt.
3. Remove crankshaft sprocket by counter-holding the sprocket with tool No. 3099, or equivalent.





4. To guide the oil seal extractor, screw bolt from oil seal tool No. 3083, or equivalent, into crankshaft as far as it will go.
5. Unscrew inner part of the oil seal extractor tool No. 2085, or equivalent, two turns (approx. 3 mm) out of the outer part then lock using knurled screw.





6. Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor, place it in position and while exerting firm pressure, screw into oil seal as far as possible.
7. Loosen knurled screw and rotate inner section against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.

INSTALLATION
1. Lightly oil sealing lip of oil seal (do NOT use grease!)





2. Place guide sleeve from oil seal tool onto crankshaft journal.





3. Slide oil seal over guide sleeve.
4. Press in oil seal up to stop using sleeve from oil seal tool.
5. Install and tension toothed timing belt.
