1 Transmission housing
- When replaceing, adjust differential - Ring Gear
2 Dowel sleeves
- Qty: 2
3 Oil seal
- Always replace.
4 Back-up light switch
- Always replace.
5 Cover
6 Vent sleeve
- Remove using pliers.
- Drive in until seated against shoulder.
7 Selector shaft
- Removing/Installing - 020 Transmission Disassembly
8 Stop cover
- Ball sleeve discontinued starting 04/93 production. New cover is interchangeable.
9 Spring
10 Retaining plate
- Hold retaining plate in position when removing circlip (11).
- Carefully release pressure on spring (9).
11 Circlip
- Always replace.

13 Ball sleeve for selector shaft





- Extraction of sleeve
A Internal extractor 18.5-23.5 mm, e.g. Kukko 21/3
B Counter support, e.g. Kukko 22/1





- Installation of sleeve
^ Pull in against shoulder (arrow 1).
^ Installation position: ball sleeve protrudes from bore on seal ring side (arrow 2).
14 Oil seal for selector shaft
- Can be removed and installed with transmission in place.
- Fill area between sealing lips with multi-purpose grease.





- Removal of seal
^Use screwdriver or VW 681 to pry out in direction of arrow





- Installation of seal
^Pull in against shoulder
^Use VW 521/5 to drive in when transmission is removed from vehicle
