Axle Beam: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2. Working from inside vehicle, disconnect parking brake cable from parking brake lever.
3. Disconnect and plug brake hoses.

4. Raise rear axle beam with a suitable floor jack, then remove upper strut to body attaching nut, Fig. 1. Always disconnect struts one at a time, since personal injury and/or damage to vehicle may result.
5. Remove rear axle mount to rear axle attaching bolts, then the rear axle.

6. Reverse procedure to install. When installing rear axle assembly, ensure that upper edge of rear mount (A), Fig. 2, parallel to line (B). If not, loosen nut (C), adjust mount as required, then torque nut to 43 ft. lbs.
