Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair

EXC. CONVERTIBLE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove LH speaker grille, headlamp switch knob and shaft, and radio knobs.
3. Remove 6 screws securing cluster bezel and remove bezel.
4. Remove 4 screws securing cluster and pull cluster away from dash.
5. Disconnect wiring harness connectors and speedometer cable, and remove cluster.
6. Reverse procedure to install.

CONVERTIBLE

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering wheel trim and retaining nut, then remove steering wheel using a suitable puller.
3. Remove radio or storage tray, heater control knobs, and control trim plate.
4. On Rabbit models, remove trim rings from around each switch panel.
5. On all models remove screws securing instrument cluster bezel and pull bezel away from dash.
6. If equipped, press switches out of bezel and remove bezel.
7. Remove screws securing instrument cluster, disconnect wiring harness connectors and speedometer cable, then remove cluster.
8. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring that steering wheel is properly centered.
