Models Less Self Adjusters

Refer to Fig. 1 for brake shoe removal and installation. Adjust wheel bearings as outlined under ``Wheel Bearings, Adjust.''

Models With Self Adjusters

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheel assembly.
2. Using tool VW 637/2 or equivalent, remove grease cap, then cotter pin and axle nut.
3. Remove brake drum, then spring retainers by pressing in and turning, Fig. 2.
4. Remove brake shoes from anchor pins, then lower return spring.
5. Disconnect parking brake cable from lever.
6. Disconnect spring for adjusting wedge, then upper return spring using suitable pliers.
7. Remove brake shoes.
8. Reverse procedure to install, then adjust wheel bearings as outlined under ``Wheel Bearing, Adjust.''
