Hole in center of windshield frame is sometimes not properly sealed in production... Water leaks into heater intake opening and from there into the passenger compartment. If water leaks at the windshield, be sure hole is properly sealed Note
Center hole is eliminated from frame as of Dec. 1982, with VIN 17DV 022 267. Windshield drain holes are located 550 mm left and right of center line

If leaks occur on early 1983 cars, seal center drain hole as follows:
- drop windshield-wiper motors, together with linkage
- using silicone sealer or epoxy putty, seal center hole from underside of window opening (see inset)
- replace wiper motors and linkage
CAUTION
As a general rule when repairing water leaks, vehicle should be checked carefully for consequential damage to electrical system or interior trim
