FIGURE 1 - EXTENDED RING GEAR RIVETS:
As of Transmission No. 15 10 2, differential pinion gear shaft is not retained by circlips. Instead, two of the eight ring gear retaining rivets are extended (arrows, Fig... 1) on both sides of pinion shaft acting as stops.
When repairs require extended rivet heads be removed, differential pinion gear shaft must be secured by circlips.
Differential pinion gear shafts with circlip grooves are available for replacement:
Pinion shaft with grooves, Part No. 020-409-177A Circlips (two), Part No. N 042-363-1
FIGURE 2 - EXTENDED RIVET HEADS, REMOVING:
This shaft and circlips must be used after replacement of original ring gear or differential pinion gears because:
1) replacement ring gears are retained by nuts and bolts (without extended rivet heads) and, 2) extended rivet heads must be cut off to remove differential pinion gear shaft for replacement of differential pinion gears (Fig. 2)
