A new alternator wiring harness and cable routing are now being used.

FIGURE 1 - ALTERNATOR HARNESS ROUTING:
Work sequence
- remove battery ground (-) cable from battery
- remove old alternator harness
- plug connector of new wiring harness to alternator and secure with clip on alternator (P/N 477 971 851 or equivalent) Fig.. 1, A
- route wiring harness down and tie-wrap to heater bypass pipe (points B, Fig. 1)
FIGURE 2 - ATTACHING HARNESS:
- tie-wrap alternator harness to starter solenoid and fasten eyelet connector to terminal 30 (Fig.. 2, arrow)
- tie-wrap alternator harness to positive battery cable (See Fig. 2)
- connect blue wire (D+) of alternator harness to left hand engine harness
- connect battery ground (-) cable
