Evaporator Core: Service and Repair





1. Discharge A/C system. Service and Repair
2. Disconnect lower radiator hose and drain coolant.
3. Remove left and right underdash panels.
4. Remove left and right air outlet hoses.
5. Disconnect high and low pressure lines at the evaporator.
6. Remove both evaporator housing side covers.

Removal





7. Disconnect coolant hoses at heater core.
8. Disconnect all electrical wires and vacuum hoses.
9. Remove capillary tube from evaporator copper tube.
10. Remove bolts holding evaporator case to the water tray.
11. Remove the cover and drain hose.
12. Remove the glove box.
13. Remove the knee bar (if equipped).
14. Remove the evaporator assembly by pushing out toward the passenger side (two people may be necessary, one pulling up on the dash as required, the other removing the evaporator assembly).





15. Split the two halves of the housing and remove the evaporator

Installation
1. Place evaporator in evaporator case, apply sealant (3M strip caulk #8578 or equivalent) on top of the original gasket in the evaporator housing joint.

NOTE: Silicone sealer is not recommended because it does not adhere to the housing material.

2. Reassemble evaporator case and reinstall.
3. Fill radiator with coolant.
4. Recharge A/C.
