December 7, 1983
As of September, 1983, the cooling systems of ALL Volkswagen vehicles are filled at the factory with a mixture of water and an antifreeze solution with additional corrosion inhibitors. This coolant mixture should be used year-round.

When replacing coolant/antifreeze solution in all watercooled Volkswagen models, only a phosphatefree product must be used.

The new product, Part No. ZVW 237 102, has additional corrosion inhibiting agents especially formulated to help prevent corrosion damage to the water jacket sealing surfaces of the cylinder heads.

Note

This coolant may be mixed with pre-9/83 factory - filled, phosphate-free antifreeze, Part No. ZVW 244 101.

The new coolant will supercede the old coolant, Part no. ZVW 244 101, when supply is exhausted, and may be used in ALL types, ALL Model Year, watercooled Volkswagens.

CAUTION

Antifreeze other than specified by Volkswagen may cause corrosion of the cooling system thus leading to engine overheating and damage.
