Modification procedure

- remove and discard vacuum delay valve and attaching hoses (arrow) from vacuum ports on carburetor base and choke pull down
- install vacuum cap on open port of carburetor base to make it inoperative
- assemble vacuum solenoid, check valve, and vacuum hoses into a sub-assembly as shown under "Parts required". Observe directional orientation of check valve (item 2). Arrow on check valve must point toward tee.

- remove upper mounting bolt of ignition coil (arrow 1), and install vacuum solenoid (item 1) and ground lug (item 13) under mounting bolt, and reinstall bolt

- connect vacuum hose (item 4) to port at choke pull-down diaphragm
- remove plastic vacuum line from cold start switch and insert tee (arrow 2) with connecting hoses (items 3 + 9)
- locate power lead to intake manifold (arrow 3). Splice the solenoid feed wire (item 11) to this power lead using scotchlock connector (item 14)
- inform-customer of revised cold-start procedure as follows:
Revised cold-start procedure

Starting a cold engine at temperatures of 10~F/-12~C or below:

- depress accelerator pedal fully and release
- start engine with clutch pedal depressed and accelerator pedal depressed slightly
- as soon as engine starts, release accelerator pedal and ignition key
- if engine fails to start and run, turn ignition off and repeat the full procedure
- let engine run at fast idle for approx. 30 seconds before driving off. (Do not attempt to reduce fast idle by tapping the accelerator pedal).

Starting a cold engine at temperatures above 10~F/-12C:

- depress accelerator pedal fully and release
- start engine with clutch pedal depressed
- as soon as engine starts, release ignition key
^ if engine fails to start and run, turn ignition off and repeat the full procedure
- let engine run at fast idle for approx. 30 seconds before driving off. (Do not attempt to reduce the fast idle by tapping the accelerator pedal).
