REMOVAL
1. Remove each fuel hose and plug the hose opening.
2. Disconnect the accelerator wire.
3. Remove the air conditioner compressor and bracket (if so equipped).
4. Turn the crankshaft in the standard rotating direction until the marks (shown in the figure at the right) are aligned with each other. The No. 1 cylinder is now set at T.D.C. on the compression stroke.
- With the flywheel housing installed on the vehicle, remove the cover from the flywheel housing.
- Using a flat-blade screwdriver, rotate the flywheel in the standard rotating direction until the No. 1/No. 4 cylinder (T.D.C.) mark on the flywheel is aligned with the pointer.

NOTE: There are two line marks on the flywheel. One line mark is longer than the other and refers to the T.D.C. position for the No. 1 and No. 4 cylinders. The shorter line mark refers to the fuel injection timing point.

5. Make sure the alignment mark on the pump drive gear tooth tip is aligned in the notch on the front gear case bore area.

NOTE: When the alignment mark is not visible, the No. 4 cylinder is set at T.D.C. on the compression stroke. Rotate the crankshaft in the standard rotating direction until the No. 1 cylinder is set at T.D.C. on the compression stroke.

6. Remove the fuel injection tube.
7. Remove the fuel tube.
8. Remove the intake manifold assembly.
9. Support the engine using a hoist or transmission jack. Remove the left-hand engine mount.
10. Remove the accelerator wire and engine stop motor clevis.
11. Disconnect the harness connector of engine speed sensor, rack sensor and pre-stroke sensor of MD-TICS.

12. Remove the fuel injection pump bracket.
13. Remove the oil tube and flange securing nuts from the fuel injection pump.
14. Remove the pump securing bolts from the front cover.
15. Remove the fuel injection pump assembly.

NOTE: After removing the fuel injection pump assembly, do not attempt to rotate the crankshaft.
