Removal
REMOVALWARNING:
Observe the following when removing fuel system components.
- Post an "INFLAMMABLE" sign.
- Place a fire extinguisher in the working area.
- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery to prevent sparks.
FUEL TANK
1. Remove the drain plug and drain fuel into a suitable container.
NOTE: To drain fuel from the tank quickly, remove the cap.
WARNING: Cover the container to prevent entry of foreign matter. Keep the container away from inflammable material.
2. Disconnect the harness for the fuel tank gauge unit.
3. Disconnect the two fuel hoses (suction and return).
CAUTION: Plug the openings of the fuel hoses and the fuel tank to prevent entry of foreign matter.
4. Remove the nuts from the holddowns at the outer side of the vehicle.
5. Remove the fuel tank. To do this, raise the fuel tank slightly and remove the locating knob from the lower front section of the fuel tank. Then, remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
NOTE: The fuel tank weight approximately 24.3 kg (53.6 Ib). To facilitate removal and insure safety, two men are required. If a hoist is used, tie the lifting rope on the fuel tank and lift it out.
FUEL TUBE AND HOSE
The fuel tube and flare nut are furnished as a unit. Do not attempt to remove the nut and the tube. Remove the tube and hose as required.
HANGER BRACKET
Remove the hanger and sedimentor brackets as required.
