REAR SUSPENSION: REAR SHOCK ABSORBER: REMOVAL; 2013 MY Corolla [07/2012 -]
NOTICE:
For vehicles equipped with VSC, if the wheel alignment has been adjusted, and if suspension or underbody components have been removed/installed or replaced, be sure to perform the following initialization procedure in order for the system to function normally:
(a) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal for more than 2 seconds.
(b) Reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
(c) Perform zero point calibration of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor and test mode inspection.
HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
1. REMOVE SPARE WHEEL COVER Removal
2. REMOVE REAR FLOOR FINISH PLATE Adjustments
3. REMOVE INNER LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER Removal
4. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
5. REMOVE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
(a) Support the rear axle beam assembly using a jack and wooden block.
(b) Remove the nut and rear shock absorber cushion retainer.
(c) Remove the 2 nuts from the rear shock absorber with coil spring (upper side).
(d) Remove the bolt (lower side) from the rear shock absorber with coil spring.
(e) Slowly lower the jack and remove the rear shock absorber with coil spring.
6. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SHOCK ABSORBER CUSHION WASHER
(a) Using SST, compress the rear coil spring.

If the rear coil spring is compressed at an angle, using 2 SST will make the work easier.
NOTICE:
Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage SST.
(b) Check that the rear coil spring is fully compressed.
(c) Use a hexagon wrench (6 mm) to hold the rear shock absorber piston rod and remove the nut.
(d) Remove the No. 1 rear shock absorber cushion washer.
7. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION SUPPORT
8. REMOVE REAR SPRING BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION SUPPORT ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE REAR COIL SPRING UPPER INSULATOR
11. REMOVE REAR BUMPER SPRING
12. REMOVE REAR COIL SPRING
(a) Remove SST and remove the rear coil spring.
NOTICE:
Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage SST.
