Steering Column: Testing and Inspection





STEERING COLUMN: STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for Hatchback): INSPECTION

1. INSPECT PRELOAD

(a) Secure the steering column assembly in a vise.

NOTICE:
When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

(b) Using SST and a torque wrench, turn the main shaft at a fixed speed of approximately 1 revolution every 4 seconds and measure the preload.

SST : 09616-00011

Preload - Torque : 1.45 Nm (14.8 kgf-cm, 12.8 in-lbf) or less

If the preload is not as specified, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

2. INSPECT STEERING LOCK OPERATION

(a) Remove the key and check that the steering lock function is activated.

(b) Insert the key, turn the ignition switch to ACC and check that the steering lock function has been deactivated.





3. INSPECT STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

(a) Check that the 2 bushings are securely installed to the steering column assembly.





If the bushings are deformed, missing or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

(b) Check that the 2 capsules are securely installed to the steering column assembly as shown in the illustration.

Standard:

Capsules do not overlap the corner parts of the brackets.

NOTICE:
* If the standard value is not satisfied, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.
* If the capsules have deformation, damage or misalignment, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.
