P0443
1NZ-FE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM (for Hatchback): P0443: Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit
P0443 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit
DESCRIPTION
HINT
This DTC P0443 is applicable to Mexico models only.
To reduce hydrocarbon emissions, evaporated fuel from the fuel tank is routed through a charcoal canister to the intake manifold for combustion in the cylinders.
The ECM changes the duty signals to the Purge VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve for Purge Control) so that the intake amount of hydrocarbon emissions is appropriate for the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc.) after the engine is warmed up.
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn Techstream on.
3. Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
4. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
6. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher [A].
HINT
The A/C switch and all accessory switches should be off.
7. Idle the engine for 15 minutes or more [B].
HINT
Check the EVAP (Purge) VSV item in the Data List. When the value of this item is between 5 and 95%, the judgment will be performed.
8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [C].
9. Read pending DTCs.
HINT
* If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
* If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
11. Input the DTC: P0443.
12. Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
* If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
* If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
* If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform steps [D] and [E].
13. Drive the vehicle at a constant speed between 40 and 60 km/h (25 and 38 mph) for 10 minutes [D].
CAUTION:
When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
14. Check the DTC judgment result [E].

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE VSV FOR EVAP CONTROL)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Text in Illustration
(b) Disconnect the vacuum hose (canister side) from the purge VSV.
(c) Start the engine.
(d) Turn the Techstream on.
(e) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control.
(f) When the purge VSV is operated using the Techstream, check whether the port of the purge VSV applies suction to your finger.
OK:
NG -- INSPECT PURGE VSV (RESISTANCE)
OK -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS Check For Intermittent Problems (from 07/2011)
2. INSPECT PURGE VSV (RESISTANCE)
(a) Inspect the purge VSV Testing and Inspection.
NG -- REPLACE PURGE VSV Removal (from 07/2011)
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT PURGE VSV (POWER SOURCE)
(a) Disconnect the purge VSV connector.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE ECM Removal (from 07/2011)
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - NO. 1 INTEGRATION RELAY)
(a) Disconnect the purge VSV connector.
(b) Remove the No. 1 integration relay from the engine room relay block.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- CHECK ECM POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT ECM Power Source Circuit (from 07/2011)
