B1660/43 - Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit consists of the airbag sensor assembly and the telltale light assembly (Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator).

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates the operation condition of the front passenger airbag.

DTC B1660/43 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY (PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION)

(a) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(b) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

HINT
Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator Diagnosis System (from 07/2011).

B -- CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly and the telltale light assembly.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly and the telltale light assembly.

(b) Check that the connectors (on the airbag sensor assembly side and telltale light assembly side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY (PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR)





(a) Connect the connector to the telltale light assembly.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(d) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

OK:

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY)
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK DTC

(a) Connect the connector to the airbag sensor assembly.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Airbag System (for Hatchback without VSC).

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Airbag System (for Hatchback without VSC).

OK:

DTC B1660/43 is not output.

HINT
DTCs other than B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Disconnect the connectors from the telltale light assembly and airbag sensor assembly.

(d) Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





(f) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

(g) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





(h) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(i) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(j) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:





NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

OK -- REPLACE TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY Removal (from 07/2011)

7. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly and the telltale light assembly.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly and the telltale light assembly.

(b) Check that the connectors (on the airbag sensor assembly side and telltale light assembly side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

9. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY)

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Disconnect the connectors from the telltale light assembly and airbag sensor assembly.

(d) Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

NG -- REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

10. CHECK TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY (SOURCE VOLTAGE)





(a) Connect the connectors to the airbag sensor assembly.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY - BATTERY)
OK -- Continue to next step.

11. CHECK TELLTALE LIGHT ASSEMBLY (PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR)





(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Connect the connector to the telltale light assembly.

(d) Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly.

(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(f) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(g) Check the indicator according to the value(s) in the table below.

OK:

12. CHECK DTC

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Connect the connectors to the airbag sensor assembly.

(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(e) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Airbag System (for Hatchback without VSC).

(g) Turn the ignition switch off.

(h) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(i) Check for DTCs Airbag System (for Hatchback without VSC).

OK:

DTC B1660/43 is not output.

HINT
DTCs other than B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
