Accelerator Bracket Repair

1. Reposition cowl insulator pad.





A. Cut cowl insulator pad as shown.





B. Fold cowl insulator pad to expose Accelerator Pedal Mounting Bracket as shown.

2. Inspect accelerator pedal bracket weld nuts for damage e.g. stripped or pulled threads.

3. Repair damaged accelerator pedal bracket weld nuts.

NOTE

Only perform repair procedure on damaged weld nut(s).





A. Use a 6 mm drill bit to drill out the threads of damaged weld nut(s).

NOTE
If mounting bolt is broken or jammed within weld nut, it must be removed prior to repair.

4. Install accelerator pedal assembly.





A. Loosely install a NEW upper accelerator pedal mounting bolt. Do NOT torque bolt.

NOTE

If upper weld nut of the accelerator pedal mounting bracket was repaired in Step 3, skip step 4a and proceed to step 4b.





B. Using 45 degree needle nose pliers insert NEW serrated flange nut behind upper weld nut.

NOTE

If upper weld nut of accelerator pedal mounting bracket was NOT repaired in step 3, skip steps 4b - 4d and proceed to step 4e.

C. Apply Red Loctite(R) (or equivalent) to threads of NEW accelerator pedal mounting bolt.





D. Install NEW upper accelerator pedal mounting bolt through accelerator pedal base and accelerator pedal bracket into NEW serrated flange nut. Do NOT torque bolt.

E. Install NEW lower accelerator pedal mounting bolt.

Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in*lbf)

NOTE

If lower weld nut of accelerator pedal mounting bracket was repaired in Step 3, skip step 4e and proceed to step 4f.





F. Using 45 degree needle nosed pliers insert NEW serrated flange nut behind lower weld nut.

NOTE
If lower weld nut of accelerator pedal mounting bracket was NOT repaired in step 3, skip steps 4f - 4h and proceed to step 4i.

G. Apply Red Loctite(R) (or equivalent) to threads of NEW accelerator pedal mounting bolt.

H. Install NEW lower accelerator pedal mounting bolt through accelerator pedal base and accelerator pedal bracket into NEW serrated flange nut.

Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in*lbf)

I. Torque upper accelerator pedal mounting bolt.

Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in*lbf)





5. Position cowl insulator pad to original position and repair cut seems using Gorilla(TM) tape.

6. Reinstall accelerator pedal assembly electrical connector.

7. Reassemble vehicle in reverse order of disassembly (Avalon steps 1-12 Camry steps 1-19).
