Data List / Active List

2AR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

1. DATA LIST

HINT
Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.

NOTICE:
In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

(a) Warm up the engine.

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(e) Turn the Techstream on.

(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List.

(g) According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

HINT
* *1: Excluding throttle valve opening percentage due to idle speed control.
* *2: Data List values are only displayed when performing the following Active Test: Control the VVT System (Bank 1), Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1) and Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1). For other Active Test, the Data List value will be 0.
* *3: Except for Mexico models
* *4: for Automatic Transaxle models
* *5: for Manual Transaxle models
* *6: for PZEV
* Normal condition: If no idling conditions are specified, make sure the shift lever is in N (neutral) or P, and the A/C switch and all accessory switches are off.

2. ACTIVE TEST

HINT
Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

(a) Warm up the engine.

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(e) Turn the Techstream on.

(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test.

(g) According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test.

NOTICE:
*1: If the display of the Catalyst OT MF F/C item of the Data List is Not Avl, perform this Active Test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling. If the display of the Catalyst OT MF F/C item of the Data List is Avail, perform this Active Test as described below.

(a) Stop the engine and turn the ignition switch to ON to change Control the Cylinder #1 Fuel Cut (to Control the Cylinder #4 Fuel Cut) to ON.
(b) Start the engine.

HINT
*2: When performing the Active Test item "Check the Cylinder Compression" and then cranking the engine, the ECM stops the fuel injection and ignition, and measures the engine speed for each cylinder.

If the speed of one cylinder is higher than the others, the compression pressure of that cylinder can be concluded to be less than the others.

1. Warm up the engine.

2. Turn the ignition switch off.

3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

5. Turn the Techstream on.

6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Check the Cylinder Compression.

7. Enter the following menus: Compression / Engine Speed of Cyl #1 to Engine Speed of Cyl #4, Av Engine Speed of All Cyl.

8. Press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change Check the Cylinder Compression to ON.

HINT
Fuel injection and ignition for all the cylinders are prohibited at this time, and the engine speed measurement of each cylinder will enter standby mode.

9. Crank the engine until the monitor item values "Engine speed of Cyl #1 to Engine Speed of Cyl #4" and "Av Engine Speed of All Cyl" change.

10. Monitor the engine speed (Engine Speed of Cyl #1 to Engine Speed of Cyl #4, Av Engine Speed of All Cyl) displayed on the Techstream.

HINT
The Techstream displays extremely high values before cranking the engine. The engine speed of each cylinder is measured while cranking the engine and then the Techstream displays the actual engine speed values.

NOTICE:
* The Active Test item "Check the Cylinder Compression" will automatically turn off 255 seconds after the Active Test is turned on.
* When the "Check the Cylinder Compression" is OFF and the engine is cranked, the engine will start.
* If the "Check the Cylinder Compression" test needs to be performed again after the engine speed measurement of each cylinder has been performed once, press EXIT to return to the Active Test menu screen. Then perform the Check the Cylinder Compression test again.
* Use a fully-charged battery.

* *3: for Automatic Transaxle models

* *4: Except for Mexico models

* *5: for PZEV

3. SYSTEM CHECK (Only for Techstream)

HINT
Performing a System Check in the Utility menu enables the system, which consists of multiple actuators, to be operated without removing any parts. In addition, it can show whether or not any DTCs are stored, and can detect potential malfunctions in the system.

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility.

(e) Perform the System Check by referring to the table below.
